Manual Scar Therapy
Specialised hands-on therapy for scars, adhesions and restricted tissue.

Manual Scar Therapy is a specialised hands-on treatment focused on the scar and the surrounding tissue. Using carefully selected manual techniques, I work with areas of tightness, restriction and adhesion to help improve tissue mobility, flexibility and comfort.
Every scar behaves differently. Before treatment, I assess how the scar moves, how the surrounding tissue feels and whether there are areas of pulling, tightness, sensitivity or restriction. The treatment is then adapted to what the tissue needs at that stage.
The aim is not to remove the scar, but to support the tissue as it matures and help the scar become softer, more mobile and less restrictive over time.
Who it is for
For people with healed scars that feel tight, hard, restricted, sensitive or attached to the surrounding tissue.
Manual Scar Therapy may be suitable for scars following plastic surgery, C-sections, abdominal or breast surgery, injuries, accidents and burns, as well as other procedures that have left scar tissue or adhesions.
It can also be suitable when more invasive scar treatments are not appropriate and the scar requires a gentler, manual approach.
What happens during the treatment
The session begins with an assessment of the scar and surrounding tissue.
I then use specialised manual scar techniques and tissue mobilisation, adjusting the pressure and direction of the work according to how your scar and surrounding tissue respond.
Treatment is always individual. There is no single technique or routine that is appropriate for every scar.
Before you come
The scar must be sufficiently healed for manual therapy and there should be no open areas, active infection or ongoing wound complications.
Please let me know when and how the scar occurred, whether you have had surgery or other treatment in the area and if you are experiencing pain, numbness, sensitivity, tightness or restricted movement.
If the scar is related to recent surgery, please bring any relevant aftercare instructions from your surgeon.
Afterwards
The treated area may temporarily feel different, more sensitive or mildly tender following manual scar work.
I will explain what you can do at home between appointments and, where appropriate, show you simple techniques to support the work we are doing during your sessions.
Your treatment plan and frequency of appointments will depend on the scar, how the tissue responds and what we are trying to achieve.
When treatment is not suitable
Manual Scar Therapy will not be performed over an open wound, active infection, acute inflammation or a scar that has not healed sufficiently for hands-on treatment.
Treatment may also need to be postponed if there are unexplained changes in the scar or surrounding tissue, significant pain, suspected complications or another condition requiring medical assessment.
If I have any concerns about whether it is safe to work on the area, I may ask for medical clearance before beginning treatment.
Treatment times are a guide, not a stopwatch. Every session is tailored to your individual needs, the condition of the tissue and, where it applies, your stage of recovery, so it takes as long as it needs to be done properly. A short consultation is completed before your first treatment.
